Great Big Paddle Saturday, July 4

Hosted by Medicine Hat Paddle Club a large waterway in a prairie city calls for an event like the Great Big Paddle. The South Saskatchewan River invites the relaxed and friendly float to begin in Echo Dale Regional Park, where giant cliffs and red rock lead the way. After a few hours of stunning scenery, Strathcona Island Park pulls the group in to finish the float. The event is free and open for anyone to join. Rentals are available through Outdoor Xcape Rentals.

Quonset Days Friday, July 17 to Saturday, July 18 Quonset Days will present Tenille Townes, Aaron Goodvin, Montgomery Gentry, Phil Vassar, and more Canadian artists in a Southeast Alberta farmland setting. The full weekend features live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and classic Quonset Days food, including the “Quonset Dog.”

All profits are donated to the ALS Society of Alberta.

SUMMER PRO RODEO The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is proud to be part of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Tour for the rodeo season. The tour is made up of a number of high-profile rodeos in Canada. THE MIDWAY Find thrilling rides, classic games, and midway food throughout the park for a full day of fun. Pre-sale wristbands are available at all Co-ops and Co-op gas bars. SUMMER STAMPEDE TRADESHOW & VISUAL ARTS Browse the artisan markets at the Summer Stampede Tradeshow, and then check out the local artists featured at the Visual Arts exhibit.

In Medicine Hat’s Historic Downtown, set up your lawn chair to see vibrant floats during the Medicine Hat Stampede Parade, featuring local businesses, organizations, and performers. NIGHT SHOWS Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. brings Tom Cochrane with Barney Bentall, and Saturday, July 25 at 8 p.m. brings Johnny Reid with Morgan Klaiber to the Grandstand stage. Stampede Summer Jam kicks off the week, with live music showcasing local bands. SERVUS CREDIT UNION KIDDIES DAY A full day of children’s activities, including a jelly bean guessing contest, colouring contest, bouncy castles, pony hops, face painting, scavenger hunt, and photo booth.

FREE STAGE ENTERTAINMENT There are various performances from noon until midnight during Medicine Hat Stampede week that are free to enjoy with daily gate admission.

Mountain Bike Events CANADIAN ENDURO LEAGUE

Saturday, August 8 to Sunday, August 9 The Canadian Enduro League is returning to Elkwater, Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. Since 2016, Canadian Enduro League has hosted mountain bike events in the best riding destinations across Canada. Event organizer Ryder Knoll says Elkwater is a unique place to host a Canadian Enduro League round. Riding through forested hills that rise dramatically out of the surrounding prairie landscape makes the setting feel special before you even hop on the bike. It brings riders, families and communities together, while highlighting incredible mountain bike destinations, and invites people to explore the nearby attractions and surrounding cities.

BATTLE CREEK SHOWDOWN Saturday, August 22 Battle Creek Showdown is a decade-long mountain bike festival hosted in the lodgepole pine and aspen forest in Elkwater, Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. Only 45 minutes from Medicine Hat, over 200 riders race the highest elevations between the Rocky Mountains and Labrador. After the race, the evening brings local food and live music.

Downtown Days Friday, August 21 to Saturday, August 22

Downtown Days is a celebration of local eateries, small shops, and health and wellness spaces that are owned by locals and located in the heart of the city. The weekend festival features a food and drink expo, late-night small shop savings, and beer garden block parties with live music. Soak in Medicine Hat’s sunshine in the thick of summer, and spend the weekend in the city’s core during Downtown Days.

Trails Medicine Hat has 190+ kilometres of trails that lead you around the coulees, up and down the hills, throughout the trees, and along the South Saskatchewan River. MCCUTCHEON TRAIL Bringing a panoramic view of Medicine Hat, including the Historic Downtown, in the far distance you can faintly see the rolling hills in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. DEVONIAN TRAIL Featuring the South Saskatchewan River, Historic Finlay Bridge, and Historic Railway Bridge, if you find yourself in Medicine Hat’s Historic Downtown, this trail is only a few blocks away. SARATOGA TRAIL Fully encompassing trail users in the coulees and cottonwood trees, there is a portion of the path that highlights the Métis community who lived in the park until the early 2010s. POLICE POINT PARK TRAILS Known for its Northwest Mounted Police and Indigenous histories, enjoy the view of old cottonwood trees, some being 200-300 years old. Visit The Nature Centre to learn more about the area.

POLICE POINT WEST TRAIL Connected to Police Point Park, this trail brings you alongside the South Saskatchewan River. Pet some puppies along the way, and watch the sunlight reflect off the water. TRANSCANADA TRAIL This trail is a part of the Trans Canada Trail in Canada. The entire length is 27,000 kilometres and connects the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic oceans. Both Riverside Trails and Strathcona Island Park Trails are connected to this system. RIVERSIDE Connected to Police Point West Trail, become encompassed in trees, leaves, and feel the warmth of the shaded sunlight while you explore this tunnel of nature. ROSS CREEK COULEE TRAIL This quiet paved trail will lead you in and shortly after, you’ll be met by a fork in the road, turning right brings you right to the prairies with the CP Railway line beside you. SAAMIS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE LOOP Downhill from the Saamis Tepee, this Indigenous space dates back thousands of years. Natural plants surround you as you stroll around and hear the calming sounds of Seven Persons Creek.
