Live Music Downtown In the historic hub with local eateries, an ultimate live music trail is found in downtown Medicine

Moose & Squirrel Bistro The beautifully crafted stage with favourable acoustics invites local and traveling artists to perform outdoors, and allows for ‘jam nights’ to introduce other creatives to one another. “There’s definitely an appetite for live music from locals, and visitors love it because they get to see something new and different from where they live,” says Carrie Dhensaw, co-owner of Moose & Squirrel Bistro. The Yard Patio & Eatery With an elevated food menu and a hot spot for live music, The Yard Patio & Eatery stays as local as possible with everything they do. “It’s the weather, the people, and the special moments that keep bringing people downtown to have a full night out,” says Joshua Hopkins, managing partner at The Yard Patio & Eatery. Downtown Medicine Hat is becoming an entertainment district to hop around. And with the new Tipsy Trolley, people can now pedal to the next spot.

Hat — starting at one of these four spots who host live music almost every weekend in the summer. Casa Amigos Cantina Local to traveling bands of all genres will take the Cantina stage in the summer, including three from Puerto Vallarta. Drink specials and the dancefloor await those who search for live entertainment. “We love how hosting live music invites people downtown to have dinner and stay longer to enjoy the live music,” says Shauna Mamona, co-owner at Casa Amigos Cantina. LOCAL Public Eatery LOCAL Public Eatery throws summer events with live music as the main entertainment. And many people still talk about their events as more summer seasons pass. “The patio is where the core memories are made in the summer, and live music plays such a big part in that,” Jessica Vossler, night manager at LOCAL Public Eatery.

Filled with living memory, it captures a sense of place and invites you in to not only stop and listen, watch, or read, but also to share and engage in the story. Enjoy sound clips of our residents reminiscing together on the way things

were, delivered with such a charming touch of nostalgia, you won’t look at Medicine Hat quite the same way again! Like any good story we intend for it to evolve and reshape over time, carrying with it the fingerprints of its storytellers – our community.

Beat

the Heat

@lens_of_blizz

Beat the Heat is one of Canada’s largest amateur skateboard competitions - and proud to achieve a $5,000 cash prize parity for men and women in 2024. The women’s competition prize payout is sponsored and made possible through the generous support of Tourism Medicine Hat and the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association. “Our team has shown a commitment over the last year to focus on issues relevant to women. We partnered with the local food bank, The Root Cellar, for an “End Period Poverty” campaign. This effort created awareness of needs, and raised around $7,000 in feminine hygiene products for the community,” says Medicine Hat Skateboard Association Treasurer Michaela Burgess. “On our recent 2024 Rolling For Hope humanitarian trip to $5,000 more — prize parity for womens and mens competitors.

Ensenada, Mexico, we worked with a local organization that is saving young women from sex trafficking. We wanted to take that next step with our annual Beat the Heat competition and move to cash prize parity, offering $5,000 for the men’s open competition and $5,000 for the women’s competition.” “The Medicine Hat Accommodation Association is proud to sponsor the prize money for the women’s skateboarding competition this July. We are excited to see women from across North America come to compete and receive equal recognition for their talent. We appreciate Medicine Hat Skateboarding Association’s efforts to enhance equality for women and are thrilled to be a part of this new initiative,” says Elisha Ammann, Executive Director of Medicine Hat Accommodation Association.
