Welcome to Medicine Hat

Our city is home to many wonderful recreation facilities, built for residents, guests and visi tors alike. We understand the costs associat ed with building these facilities, but also see the value of this investment in our community. Every year our city hosts hundreds of sporting, recreational events and tournaments that in spire our community to be active and provide us with opportunities to socialize and have fun.

We are thrilled to have won the opportuni ty to host the national 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. This will be an in credible opportunity to showcase our city and offer memorable experiences for athletes, coaching staff, residents, and volunteers. Highlights of our Community

Sports, recreation, education, community involvement, cultur al events, health care and hospital ity are just a few of the many rea sons why people choose Medicine Hat as an excellent place to live, work, raise their families, and retire. With a population of approximate ly 65,000 people, it is a growing city with a small town feel and communi ty warmth with big city business and services. Medicine Hat residents have more recreational facilities per capita than most other cities in Canada. In addition to superior recreational fa cilities, the city offers more than 115 kilometres of hiking / biking trails, 250 hectares of parks and five first

class golf courses. There are indoor and outdoor pools, six indoor ice arenas, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, an all weather track and so much more. So, if you enjoy ice, water or sun, there is a sport for everyone in every season. Often referred to as an Oasis on the Prairie, the city is nestled in the beautiful South Saskatchewan River Valley, amid coulees, rolling prairie and carved hillsides. Athletic Park is Medicine Hat’s premiere baseball diamond and is located on the South Saskatchewan River. It is currently home to the Medicine Hat Mavericks of the Western Canadian Baseball League. Originally opened in 1978, the ballpark has a lot of history. It was heavily damaged in 1995 and 2013 following major flooding in the area. The stadium has a capacity of 2200 with bleacher and fixed seating options. The stadium also features two patios near third base that can be rented during games. FEATURES: · Left field - 350’

Medicine Hat BMX is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity to learn the sport of Bicycle Motocross Racing. They provide weekly training of BMX riding skills and competitive racing. HOCKEY HOUNDS RECREATION CENTRE

Sponsored by the Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds, the Hockey Hounds Arena is home to many different sports, including major annual tournaments. With a capacity of 250 in bleacher seating, this intimate arena is a great place to watch young athletes train to become future stars. The large social room is frequently used for meetings, parties and social events.
