The South Saskatchewan River

As you drive into the City on the Trans-Canada Highway, you’ll dip down and observe the terrain transform from flat prairie land, to a mountain biker’s playground in Medicine Hat. The mountain bike trails showcase the adventurous landscapes found in the city. Coulees completely surround you and natural beauty appears often on the trails, like prickly pear, pincushion, and brittle cactus, and the South Saskatchewan River. Between Echo Dale Regional Park and Gas City Campground, spend a day riding flowy trails that range in difficulty from green to black in Canada’s Sunniest City. Once finished mountain biking for the day, you can leisurely ride Medicine Hat’s 190+ kilometre paved trail system and grab a cold drink or a fresh bite at a brewery, bakery, café, or eatery. PUMP TRACK An asphalt pump track opened in 2023 beside Gas City Campground, across the street from WestVue Dog Park. The paved course has two tracks — one for youth and beginners and the other for advanced skill sets. The circuits are designed to be ridden completely by “pumping”, moving up and down to generate momentum. Because the space is paved, anything with wheels can use the pump track: bikes, scooters, skateboards, wheelchairs, rollerblades, and roller skates. Local Tip: Book a campsite in either Echo Dale Regional Park or Gas City Campground and ride right from your campsite! GRAVEL TRAILS Because of the extensive path system in Medicine Hat, a gravel rider can hop-on and hop-off paved sections and add in dirt sections that exist around the city. Most of the green rated mountain bike trails would double as gravel ridable trails, like Cobra Chicken, Thin Lizzy, Burnside, and Smithers. Outside of Medicine Hat, the grid roads and dirt roads offer endless gravel riding, especially towards the Cypress Hills.
